WhatsApp is the daily driver for almost everyone, so it is common for storage to fill up fast. WhatsApp media—photos, videos, and voice notes—can take up space on your device by the minute, with videos, messages, and statuses flooding into your phone on a dime. But when you suddenly hear your phone chime with a notification like
"Storage Full"
or
"WhatsApp Storage Almost Full"
People start to panic. The phone slows down, new things don’t download on WhatsApp, and pictures or videos won’t open.
In this article, I am going to describe very crudely and simply, forward in Urdu, why WhatsApp storage gets full & how to clear it.

Why does WhatsApp storage get full?
1. Every picture and video is saved
automatically
WhatsApp saves everything you send on your phone, whether you want it to or not. All the videos and pictures that come in groups also take up space on your phone's memory.
2. The most space is taken up by groups.
Every day, hundreds of pictures and videos from friends, family, school, or work come in. All of them quickly take up space on your phone.
3. Hidden and saved status videos are also available.
When you check someone's status, it gets saved in a hidden folder on your phone. Most people don't even know about this.
Easy Ways to Clear WhatsApp Storage
All of the methods below are very easy. Anyone can do them.
Step 1: Use WhatsApp’s “Manage Storage."
The best way to quickly free up space is to use WhatsApp's Manage Storage.
How to do it:
- Launch WhatsApp
- Press the three dots in the upper right corner.
- Go to the settings
- Data and Storage Open
- Press "Manage Storage."
This will show you:
- Which chat is taking up the most space?
- Which group is the most important?
- Which file is the main one?
You can get rid of extra photos and videos right away from here.
Step 2: Turn off Auto Download
With this setting on, your phone will automatically save every picture and video.
How to turn it off:
Settings... Data and storage Auto Download for Media Don't check anything.
Nothing will download on its own anymore.
Step 3: Stop showing media in the
gallery
Photos from WhatsApp can make your gallery messy.
How to fix it:
Settings... Talks... Disable Media Visibility
Your gallery won't show pointless photos anymore.
Step 4: Clear the Status folder
This folder is big and takes up a lot of space, but it's hard to see.
How:
File Manager Storage inside the WhatsApp Media Folder for statuses... Remove old videos
There can be 500 MB to 2 GB of extra stuff in this folder.
Step 5: Delete large videos
WhatsApp videos are often very big, like 200 or 300 MB.
How:
File Manager WhatsApp Folder for videos Choose the big videos and get rid of the ones you don't need.
Getting rid of big files here often frees up a few gigabytes right away.
Step 6: Cut down your WhatsApp backup
Videos in your backup can take up a lot of space.
How to reduce backup size:
- Settings... Talks... Backup for Chat
- Turn off the option to include videos.
This will also make the backup smaller.
Step 7: Delete forwarded media
Forwarded pictures, memes, jokes, and clips take up the most space.
How:
Manage Storage Files sent on "delete everything."
This could free up 1.3 GB of space.
Step 8: Clear WhatsApp cache
The cache is just extra files. Clearing it won’t mark WhatsApp.
How:
- Settings for mobile apps: WhatsApp storage... Clear the cache.
Finished! WhatsApp will be quick again.
Step 9: Use an SD card if you can
Put your pictures and videos on a memory card if your phone can use one.
This will make more space on your internal storage.
Step 10: Do a weekly cleanup.
Take just five minutes to:
- Get rid of old pictures
- Remove old videos
- Get rid of your status folder
- Take out forwarded media
Your phone will always be free and never run out of space.
