Last Tuesday, I walked into my living room, picked up the remote for my Fire TV, and tried to turn on my soundbar. Nothing happened. Pushed the button for volume again. Nothing yet.
I went to Amazon's website at that time.
Fire TV Blaster? No longer available.
No warning. No email. Just... gone from their store. And suddenly, my setup that had worked seamlessly for two years no longer felt right.
If you’re reading this, you’ve likely just found out the Fire TV Blaster is already discontinued as well. Perhaps yours is broken, or you need a spare, or you’re configuring a new Fire TV and realized that the Blaster isn’t available for purchase anymore.
Here’s what I learned after three days trying to figure out alternatives.
Why Amazon Discontinued the Fire TV Blaster
No one knows the official reason. Amazon didn't say anything about it. They just took it off the market without saying anything.
But this is what most likely happened:
Newer models of the Fire TV Cube come with built-in IR blasters. Amazon probably thought that if people want to control their TV and soundbar with their voice, they'll just buy the Cube instead of the Fire Stick and a separate Blaster.
It makes sense for Amazon to do this. Bad for those of us who already bought Fire Sticks and Blasters separately.
What the Fire TV Blaster Actually Did
Before we talk about how to fix it, let me tell you what made the Blaster useful.
The Fire TV Blaster was a small IR device that worked with your Fire TV. It let Alexa control things that don't have Bluetooth or WiFi, like older TVs, soundbars, cable boxes, and receivers.
You would have to use more than one remote if you didn't have it. You could just say "Alexa, turn on my TV" and everything would work.
You have three choices now that it is no longer available.
Option 1: Keep Using Your Existing Fire TV Blaster (If It Still Works)
Don't panic if your Fire TV Blaster is still functional. You can continue to use it.
Steps to maintain it:
Check the Cable Connection
A micro-USB cable is used to connect the Blaster to your Fire TV. Verify that it is securely plugged in. At one point, I thought my Blaster had died, but the cable had just come loose.
Reposition the Blaster
A clear line of sight is necessary for IR signals. Put your Blaster in a position where it can "see" your receiver, soundbar, or TV.
Mine was taped to the top of my television. It functions flawlessly.
Re-pair Your Devices
Sometimes the Blaster loses device settings after a Fire TV update.
Steps:
- Fire TV Settings → Equipment Control
- Manage Equipment → TV or Soundbar
- Change TV → Follow setup steps again
Takes 5 minutes. Fixed my soundbar control issue completely.
Keep a Backup Power Source
Your Fire TV is the source of power for the Blaster. The Blaster may not receive enough power if you're using a Fire Stick with a weak power adapter.
Make use of the official Amazon power adapter. Power problems can occasionally be caused by third-party adapters.
Option 2: Upgrade to Fire TV Cube (Built-in IR Blaster)
Amazon intends to use this as a solution. And really? It functions.
IR emitters are integrated into the Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen, released 2022 and later). No need for a separate blaster.
Pros:
- No extra cables or devices
- Faster performance than Fire Stick
- Better voice control
- Supports 4K, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos
Cons:
- Costs Rs. 18,000-22,000 in Pakistan (way more than Fire Stick)
- Overkill if you just need IR control
Last month, I upgraded. If you were going to upgrade anyhow, it was worthwhile. For IR control alone, it's not worth it.
How to Set Up IR Control on Fire TV Cube:
- Plug in Fire TV Cube
- Settings → Equipment Control
- Manage Equipment → Add Equipment
- Select TV, Soundbar, or Receiver
- Follow on-screen instructions
- Test voice commands
The IR on the Cube is more effective than that of the Blaster. Setup is simpler and signals are more powerful.
Option 3: Use Third-Party IR Blasters (The Real Fix)
This is what most people are looking for. Fire TV compatible IR Blaster from third-party.
After testing four different brands, here’s what really works:
Broadlink RM4 Mini
This is the best replacement I found.
What it does:
- Controls any IR device (TV, soundbar, AC, fan, literally anything with IR)
- Works with Alexa
- Costs around Rs. 4,000-6,000 in Pakistan
Setup:
- Download Broadlink app
- Connect RM4 Mini to WiFi
- Add your devices (TV, soundbar, etc.)
- Link Broadlink skill in Alexa app
- Discover devices in Alexa
Now you just need to say “Alexa, turn on TV” and it works the same way as the Fire TV Blaster did.
I set mine up in 15 minutes. It controls my Samsung TV, Yamaha soundbar, even my ceiling fan.
Where to buy in Pakistan:
- Daraz (search "Broadlink RM4 Mini")
- iShopping.pk
- Local tech stores in Hafeez Center (Lahore) or Saddar (Karachi)
Logitech Harmony Hub
Premium option. Costs more (Rs. 15,000-20,000) but controls literally everything.
Pros:
- Controls IR, Bluetooth, and WiFi devices
- One-touch activities ("Movie Night" turns on TV, soundbar, dims lights)
- Works with Alexa, Google, Apple HomeKit
Cons:
- Expensive
- Discontinued by Logitech (but still available and supported)
I use this in my bedroom. Massive overkill for most people, but if you have a setup with 50 devices it is totally worth it.
SwitchBot Hub Mini
Budget-friendly option. Around Rs. 3,500-5,000.
What it does:
- IR control for basic devices
- Also controls SwitchBot smart home products
- Works with Alexa
Not owniled as powerful as Broadlink, but does the job if you just need TV + soundbar control.
DIY Solution: Use Fire TV Remote Only (No Blaster)
If you don’t mind not buying anything, you can use the Fire TV remote to control your TV — that is, if your TV supports HDMI-CEC.What is HDMI-CEC?
With HDMI-CEC, devices talk to each other over the HDMI cable. Fire TV can even power your TV on and off as well as control volume—a feat that doesn’t require IR.
How to Enable HDMI-CEC:
On your TV:
- Samsung: Settings → General → External Device Manager → Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) → On
- LG: Settings → General → SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) → On
- Sony: Settings → BRAVIA Sync Settings → On
- TCL: Settings → System → Control Other Devices (CEC) → On
On Fire TV:
- Settings → Display & Sounds
- HDMI CEC Device Control → On
Your Fire TV remote can now turn the TV on and off and change the volume without a Blaster.
I have a Samsung TV in my bedroom that I use this on. Works like a charm. No extra devices are needed.
Limitations:
- Only works if your TV supports CEC
- Doesn't control soundbars or receivers (only TV)
- Sometimes buggy depending on TV brand
My Personal Setup Journey
Let me tell you what I actually use now:
Living Room (Complex Setup):
- Fire TV Cube (controls TV and soundbar via built-in IR)
- Broadlink RM4 Mini (controls ceiling fan and AC)
- Works with Alexa voice commands
Bedroom (Simple Setup):
- Fire Stick 4K
- HDMI-CEC enabled on Samsung TV
- No separate Blaster needed
Guest Room:
- Fire Stick
- Logitech Harmony Hub (because I had one already)
- Controls old Toshiba TV that doesn't support CEC
The price of each setup was different, but they all worked better than when I only used the old Fire TV Blaster.
Cost Comparison (Prices - January 2026)
Let me break down what each option actually costs:
Keep Using Existing Blaster: Rs. 0 (if it still works)
Fire TV Cube: Rs. 18,000-22,000
Broadlink RM4 Mini: Rs. 4,000-6,000
Logitech Harmony Hub: Rs. 15,000-20,000 (if you can find it)
SwitchBot Hub Mini: Rs. 3,500-5,000
HDMI-CEC (Free): Rs. 0 (if your TV supports it)
I think most people should try HDMI-CEC first. Get the Broadlink RM4 Mini if that doesn't work. Best bang for your buck.
Common Problems After Fire TV Blaster Discontinuation
"My Blaster Stopped Working After an Update"
Fire TV updates sometimes reset Equipment Control settings.
Fix: Re-add your devices in Settings → Equipment Control → Manage Equipment
"Can't Find Replacement Blaster on Amazon"
Correct. Amazon doesn't sell it anymore. Use third-party options listed above.
"Alexa Says 'Device Not Responding'"
Your Blaster might not be getting enough power.
Fix: Use official Amazon power adapter. Check cable connections.
"Should I Buy Used Fire TV Blaster from eBay?"
Not recommended. No warranty, might already be defective, and you're stuck if it breaks.
Better to invest Rs. 4,000-5,000 in a Broadlink that's new and supported.

Conclusion
The Fire TV Blaster being discontinued is disappointing, but you've diversified options. If your old Blaster is still functioning, continue to use it — just ensure that connections are tight, and after updates are made, devices need to be re-paired.” If you want a replacement, the Broadlink RM4 Mini is perfect; it costs around 4,000-6,000 and works flawlessly with Alexa. For basic setups, all you need to do is turn on HDMI-CEC within your TV (and don’t buy any IR device—it’s free with nearly every modern TV). Stop throwing your money away searching for discontinued Fire TV Blasters on resale websites. These other solutions have a better effect and are cheaper.
